    It depends; by law, corporal punishment of children is unlawful where it causes the child unnecessary physical pain, suffering or injury, any emotional injury or injury to health or development. However, parental physical punishment that is not excessive and is used by way of correction is not legally regarded as family violence, and is hence to that extent unlikely to be unlawful.
