Expat situation. I have tenancy agreement for 12 months, 6 months diplomatic clause with 1 month notice period. What is my financial liability if I must leave Singapore in 3 months (e.g. I am fired in probation period at the end of month 2)?

    The “six months diplomatic clause” means that you can terminate the lease after 6 months by giving 1 month’s notice. As such, it appears that you can only terminate the lease after 7 months (the sum of the 6 months and the notice period). Therefore, you will have to pay rent up until that point in time. You should consider negotiating with the landlord for a concession in the form of a shorter diplomatic clause period or for a right to sublet during the remainder of the 7 months.
